Composer Winifred Phillips announced today via her website that her latest project is the comically adventurous score for LittleBigPlanet 2: Toy Story, the first full downloadable-content release for one of the best reviewed games of the year. Following her two wildly popular tracks for the initial release of LittleBigPlanet 2 in January, Phillips served as the sole composer for this newly released Toy Story game, creating a musical score that features such divergent styles as big band jazz, cowboy blue grass, and symphonically epic science fiction.
"I knew that the game would require a wide breadth of musical styles. It was a challenge, but also tremendous fun," said Phillips, whose awards include the Hollywood Music in Media Award and the Interactive Achievement Award from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. "The game world of LittleBigPlanet is amazingly vibrant and energetic, and everything is imbued with a great sense of humor. I'm always excited when I get to create more music for the world of LittleBigPlanet."
The Toy Story DLC release for LittleBigPlanet 2 includes 9 Brand new Toy Story themed levels, lots of new decorations, materials, objects and stickers that supply the LittleBigPlanet community with all the tools they need to create Toy Story levels of their own. Included in these tools are the music tracks created by Phillips, featuring a fully interactive "Cowboy" track. "For Woody's levels, I composed a high-energy blue-grass song that could be split into six interactive layers," said Phillips. "I hope that the community has fun playing around with them and exploring all the possible combinations of instruments."
"Designing the interactive portions of the LittleBigPlanet 2: Toy Story score was a particular challenge," said award-winning music producer Winnie Waldron, who worked with Phillips on the project. "The entire score had to convey the sense of imaginative play that is such an important part of what Toy Story is all about. I've enjoyed working with Winifred Phillips on LittleBigPlanet, from the initial two tracks for the LittleBigPlanet 2 release, to this new musical score for the Toy Story DLC game. The music is fantastic, and I'm proud to have worked with Winifred to make the Toy Story DLC score the best it could be."
